My Favorite Startup

26 years of marriage. Three incredible kids. A house full of noise, sports schedules, and just enough chaos to keep life interesting. This is my favorite startup.

My Favorite Startup

I've been thinking a lot lately about what makes a startup great. And I keep coming back to the same answer: it's not the product, the funding, or the growth rate.

It's the people.

The Real Story

My favorite startup isn't a company at all. It's my family. The late nights, the uncertainty, the belief that something better is possible even when the data says otherwise.

Being a founder is a lot like being a parent. You're building something from nothing. You're making decisions with incomplete information. You're betting on a future you can't fully see.

And you're doing it with people you love.

What I've Learned

From my family, I've learned the same lessons I bring to every GTM strategy:

  • Clarity over complexity. When things get chaotic, simplify. What actually matters?
  • Process over pressure. Winning isn't about working harder. It's about working smarter.
  • Patience over urgency. The best outcomes take time. Rushing creates mistakes.
  • People over everything. The team matters more than the plan.

The Connection

I used to keep my work life and family life separate. But I've realized they're the same. The discipline I bring to revenue strategy, I learned at home. The patience I bring to team building, I learned raising kids. The resilience I bring to setbacks, I learned navigating life's inevitable challenges.

Why It Matters

When I'm advising a CEO on GTM strategy, I'm not just thinking about pipelines and forecasts. I'm thinking about the people behind the numbers. The founders working late. The sales reps hitting quota. The customers counting on the product to work.

It's all connected.

The Takeaway

So when people ask me about my favorite startup, I don't talk about valuation or exit multiples. I talk about the people who taught me what really matters.

Because at the end of the day, business is personal. And the best strategies come from understanding that.
